Peggy’s of Milton Retire After Over 50 Years in Business

After 56 years Peggy’s of Milton are offically retiring and closing their doors at 184 Main Street.

The family-owned and operated business was founded by Peggy and Fred Bennet in 1968, with their first location opening in Milton. Their daughters, Joey and Jan, purchased the business in 1994 and have been running it for the last 30 years, though they were involved long before that. Over the years, they had several locations across Southern Ontario but are closing this chapter in Milton, where it all began.

The sisters first announced their retirement in a post on the Peggy’s of Milton Facebook page on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

In the post, they stated: “After a few years of consideration, we have decided the time has come for us to retire and close our doors. We are forever grateful for the 56 years that we have served our loyal customers across Southern Ontario. These wonderful memories will always stay with us, but we look forward to the relaxation of retirement.”

Over the last two months, they had been clearing out their inventory with their retirement sale with items up to 80% off.

On Saturday, July 20, they made things official with a final sign-off on their Facebook page. In the post, they mentioned: “We started in Milton, and we made a decision quite a while ago that that’s where it would finish, but we underestimated how quickly the stock would clear out. Your kind words over the past few weeks have meant a lot to us and will never be forgotten.”

The time has come for this long-time downtown community staple to end this chapter and begin retirement. Jan and Joey look forward to enjoying the beautiful weather that August has to offer for the first time in their working careers. Jan will be unwinding on her boat, and Joey will be enjoying her dog shows.

We congratulate them on decades of success in Downtown Milton and wish them the best in their well deserved retirement.
