Halton’s First Pride Parade is Happening in Downtown Milton
Halton’s first pride parade is happening in Downtown Milton. The parade has been organized by PRISM Halton and is taking place on Sunday, August 20th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
PRISM first started as a Facebook group 7 years ago. Each year, they organize the flag raising in Milton and decided to progress further this year by holding the region’s first Pride Parade. The volunteer-run organization has been working on this event for the last 8 months.
There are over 25 groups and 200 people participating in the event! Participants include MP Adan van Koeverden, town councillors, Halton libraries, Milton Firefighters, MCRC and more. There are a variety of local businesses sponsoring the event.
Downtown Milton business, Pretty Rad is hosting a drag show on Saturday, August 19th to kick off the event. They are also a high-level sponsor of the parade.
PRISM Chair, Melanie Tremills says that “we are so thrilled to celebrate Pride and see the allyship from our own town. We would love to see Main St full of rainbows on Sunday 20th August! Come and show your love!”
Main Street will be closed on Sunday, August 20th for the parade. The road will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The following areas will be affected:
- Main Street between Brown Street and Charles Street
