The following is a public service announcement from the Town of Milton.

The Town of Milton provides services that directly impact the daily life of all residents. This includes road maintenance, public transit, sports, and recreation, as well as managing the development of our community. The 2022 municipal election is your opportunity to have a say about who leads the Town and makes decisions about the municipal services and initiatives that mean the most to you and your family.

As key dates in the election process are closely approaching, the Town is sharing where Milton residents can get accurate information related to the election moving forward until Election Day on Oct. 24, 2022.

Where to get information

The Town of Milton website delivers all of the information needed to run as a candidate or vote in the upcoming municipal election. You can also subscribe to their newsletter list and their newsfeed to receive up-to-date information.

Get prepared to vote

Make sure you are registered to vote before the election. Visit voterlookup.ca to confirm that you are on the voters’ list and that all your information is accurate. If you are not on the list or you need to update your information, call MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation who manages voter lists for municipal elections) at 1-866-296-6722 or TTY: 1-877-889-6722.

The Municipal Elections Act sets the rules for municipal elections, including who is eligible to vote.

To vote in the upcoming election, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Live in Milton (own or rent)
  • Not live in Milton, but you or your spouse own or rent property in town

Candidates

  • Candidate information session – April 11, 2022
  • Nomination opening date – May 2, 2022
  • Nomination closing date – Aug. 19, 2022 (9 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

Voters

  • In person at advance polls – Oct. 10-16, 2022
  • In person on election day – Oct. 24, 2022
  • By mail – Sept. 26-Oct. 11, 2022
