The Mayor and Councillors’ New Year’s Day Levee takes place on January 1, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Milton Town Hall (150 Mary Street). The event continues the tradition with conversation and refreshments to kick off the year. The tradition of the New Year’s Levee dates back to 1646 when the governor of New France hosted the event to wish the citizens a Happy New Year and inform them of important events in France. It continues to be celebrated in municipalities across Canada.
“I always look forward to celebrating the start of the New Year with my colleagues and fellow Miltonians,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “This is a long-standing tradition of celebration for our community and I invite our newest residents to join us for the festivities.”
