Downtown Milton BIA Meeting Minutes

Action Items Summary:

  • Laurie: Reach out to Bauhound Has and Scott Prior to gauge interest in the newly formed Marketing committee
  • Laurie: To book marketing committee meetings
  • Laurie: To get pay structure for Shopmilton.com

  • No new conflicts


Treasurer’s Report: John da Silva

  • Budget has around 55K left
  • Tracking very well
  • Downtown for the Holidays will be the last major expense we will see for the year

Council Report:

Councillor Best

  • Region is taking on new allocation for 10,000 more homes
    • These will be built on the south side of Britannia

Councillor Baughton

  • Tiny Tots was a great success over 1200 kids/families visited the Downtown
    • A suggestion would be to close the street next year

ED Report:

Event Updates


  • Great turnout of 32 people; especially due to the terrible weather from Hurricane Patricia
  • Really great feedback from some of the attendees
    • Particularly the poutine bar, and Orange Snail Brewers
    • Bergsma’s was the ideal venue

Tiny Tots Trick or Treat

  • We had a whopping 1000 kids and their families attend this year
    • This is an increase of 50% over last year attendance
    • We also saw a 50% increase of participating businesses
    • So Charming is sending Prince Charming and Cinderella, free of charge, to play games and pose for countless photos
      • They reported a banner Halloween for their Enchanted Pumpkin event, which is held right after ours
      • They also are very happy to say that the publicity for them with Tiny Tots has been positively felt and have already almost sold out of their “Frozen Tea Party” they hold during “Downtown for the Holidays”
    • Chantelle, the owner of Shoppers Drug Mart Carriage Square, noted that she had a great experience, and many of our members took advantage of the 10% discount she offered
      • She is very excited to work on a better candy program for our members
      • She felt very apart of the community

Fall/Winter Events

  • Shop The Neighbourhood is on November 28th
    • Promotion has started, and swag has been collected
    • Tara and Laurie will be out on the street this week delivering the promotional material to businesses who are choosing to participate
    • Laurie will be calling on other BIAs to see what they do to further promote and enhance this event
    • Downtown for the Holidays has been officially moved to the three Friday evenings in December
      • Beavertails, Horse and carriage rides, Mr and Mrs. Clause, and the frozen tea party have all been confirmed
      • One sponsor has been confirmed with Martindale Dental for $300
        • Over 30 emails were sent to many different businesses, no response.  Not. One.
        • Laurie will be meeting with new director of corporate sponsorship to figure out best practices


  • The Milton Horticultural society was contacted for volunteers to help decorate downtown with winter foliage
    • So far no takers
    • Laurie and her Mum will take on the baskets the week of November 23rd
    • Laurie has a meeting with the President and CEO of Hydro Milton on Tuesday November 10th
      • This will be to see about what can be done with our power supply issue
      • I am also going to slip in an ask for sponsorship
